About the Community
North of Capitol is an eclectic residential area in the Shorewood community that boasts a reputation for its walkability. This North Shore community is also well known for its upscale homes and proximity to the lake.
Properties in North of Capitol can be anywhere from 1,800 square feet to in excess of 5,000 square feet, and these homes represent a large price range, from $250,000 to more than $3 million. North of Capitol also features a variety of Old World home styles, including Tudor and Colonial.
Perhaps the best part about North of Capitol is that it’s an extremely walkable community. You will hardly need to get in your car to go anywhere, including the grocery store, the beach, or local shops. This is the kind of community where pedestrians reign supreme, where you’ll find sidewalks everywhere and cars will readily stop in the streets to let a passenger cross.
Education
North of Capitol is located near several high-performing nursery schools, public schools, and private schools. Some of the nursery schools in the area include Bright Beginnings, and the Jewish Community Center.
For the primary and secondary school years, residents have the opportunity to send their children to such top-grade public schools as Lake Bluff Elementary School, Atwater Elementary School, Shorewood Intermediate School, and Shorewood High School. There are also several excellent private schools in the area, such as Holy Family Catholic School, Dominican High School, University School, Saint Roberts Catholic Elementary School, Marquette University High School (all boys), or Divine Savior Holy Angels (all girls).
Recreational
Shorewood is well known for being a tight-knit community with some family-friendly event always going on. Plus, there are also several civic groups in Shorewood that North of Capitol residents can get involved with, such as the Shorewood Civic Foundation, Shorewood Players, and the North Shore Junior Women’s Club.
