About the Community

Overview

Old-world character mixes with small-town charm in the quaint village of Thiensville. Located in Ozaukee County, this village is home to 3,400 residents. The Milwaukee River borders Thiensville to the south and the city of Mequon completely surrounds the village. Close proximity to State Highway 167 and Interstate 43 lead to a 25-minute drive to downtown Milwaukee. With family-friendly living in an area of just more than one square mile, Thiensville is known as the “mile of smiles.”

After the land was first surveyed in the 1830s, a German immigrant named John Henry Thien bought 148 acres of land on the Milwaukee River and founded and named the village. Thiensville was incorporated in 1910 and today boasts a thriving downtown business district with historic buildings that were converted into shops. A majority of the houses in the village are original, with wide front porches and lots of character. Some of these houses have been recently renovated, while others are great fixer uppers.

Recreation

Community-wide events are abundant in the village, such as Lobster Fest, the Fire Department’s Pancake Breakfast, and a weekly farmers market. Many of the annual events, like the Fourth of July celebration and Lion’s Fest, take place at the Village Park. This 16-acre park has many fields and courts, a boat launch, and playgrounds. The youth baseball and softball leagues, as well as the adult softball league, use the fields at the Village Park. Molyneux Park, located on the river, is ideal for launching a canoe and fishing. The Interurban Trail, a 30-mile trail that spans across Ozaukee County, runs through the village and is perfect for biking and running.
