Germantown

Overview

Known for its award-winning schools and strong sense of community, Germantown is a village in Washington County. Almost 20,000 residents live in the village, which surrounds the Town of Germantown. Mequon borders Germantown to the east, while Menomonee Falls neighbors the village to the south. Downtown Milwaukee is a 30-minute drive away, thanks to Interstate 41 crossing through the city.

Originally a one-mile community named “Town 9,” Germantown grew because surrounding towns feared annexation by Milwaukee County. Until 1963, Germantown’s economy was built on farming and trade. Today, manufacturing, healthcare, and social assistance are the most common industries for village residents to work.

Recreation

Community events, such as a farmers market and a community garden, connect the residents of Germantown. Many outdoor recreation opportunities are found in the village, mostly thanks to the 400 acres of parkland in Germantown. These parks include fields, courts, playgrounds, a skatepark, trails, fishing spots, archery, disc golf, ice skating, and a sprayground. Golf courses, such as Blackstone Golf Course and Riversbend Golf Course, provide a great place to play for beginners and experienced pros. Residents can hike along, canoe on, and fish in the Menomonee River, which runs through the village.
