About the Community

Overview

Known for its quiet, small-town setting and outdoor opportunities, Merton is the perfect place to raise a family. The village is located 20 miles west of Milwaukee in the Lake Country area of Waukesha County. Merton, originally named the Town of Warren, was established in 1840 after William O’Dell purchased 80 acres of land south of the Bark River. Today it is bordered by Sussex to the east and Hartland to the south.

Recreation

Many outdoor recreational activities can be explored in the village. The Bark River meanders through Merton, forming the Merton Millpond, a 34-acre lake perfect for swimming, boating, and fishing. Nearby, there are many other lakes to enjoy, such as Lake Keesus and Beaver Lake. Fireman’s Park neighbors the Bark River and has playgrounds and sports fields to enjoy. In addition, the paved 16-mile long Bugline Recreation Trail lines the former Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific Railroad, spanning from Menomonee Falls to the Town of Merton.
