About the Community
Considered one of the most affordable communities in Shorewood, West of Oakland is a highly sought-after residential area in the greater Milwaukee area. Homes in the West of Oakland area showcase a number of architectural styles, particularly Colonial and Cape Cod. Built in the 1940s and 1950s, properties in this North Shore community generally sell anywhere from $130,000–500,000. Depending on their home style, these properties range from 800 to 2,400 square feet.
As with many parts of the North Shore, West of Oakland residents enjoy quick access to fine education institutions, from nursery schools to colleges.
For primary and secondary school, West of Oakland residents attend such fine public schools as Cumberland Elementary School, Whitefish Bay Middle School, Whitefish Bay High School, and Shorewood High School.
South Hampton residents also have the option to send their children to private schools in the area, including Jewish Day School, Holy Family Catholic School, Dominican High School, and University School.
There are plenty of recreational and social opportunities in the West of Oakland area. Residents here have the option of joining such civic organizations as the Whitefish Bay Women's Club, Whitefish Bay Garden Club, Whitefish Bay Bridge Club, and the North Shore Newcomers Organization.
Shorewood and Whitefish Bay also boast a ton of community events throughout the year, including a 4th of July parade, the Whitefish Bay 5k/Fun Run, and The Bay Ball.
