Overview

Ottawa, a town in Waukesha County, is known for big yards, lots of green spaces, and many lakes. With an area of 34.9 square miles, the town is home to almost 3,900 residents. Waterville borders the town to the north, while Wales is Ottawa’s neighbor to the east.  Thanks to proximity to State Highway 67, downtown Milwaukee is only a 35-minute drive away.

German, Welsh, English, and Scotch-Irish immigrants were the earliest settlers to the area. The name of the town originated from the Ottawa Native American tribe. The land was used for farming and agriculture for many years because of the fertile soil. Today, the most common industries for the residents of Ottawa include machinery and construction, with the mean commute to work being around 30 minutes. The average home price is $310,600.

Recreation

Hiking, swimming, boating, and fishing are common activities in the village. The Glacial Drumlin Trail (a 52-mile trail stretching from Cottage Grove to Waukesha) and the 1,200-mile Ice Age Trail cross through Ottawa, providing many opportunities for hiking and biking. The Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest includes 22,000 acres of different terrains, leading to endless exploration within minutes of town. Many lakes are located in Ottawa, including the 65-acre Pretty Lake, the 54-acre Hunter’s Lake, and the 122-acre School Section Lake. Swimming, boating, water sports, and fishing can all be done on these three lakes. Softball fields, playgrounds, soccer fields, and volleyball courts can all be found at Ottawa Town Park. Youth sports such as tee-ball, flag football, softball, and lacrosse are all very popular for the children of Ottawa.
