About Dousman
Known for its tight-knit community and proximity to award-winning schools, Dousman is a charming village of 2,300 residents. Located in Waukesha County, 30 miles from downtown Milwaukee, Dousman is bordered by Ottawa to the south and Waterville to the east.
The village, founded in 1881, was named after a local farmer who was instrumental in bringing the Chicago and North Western railway to the area. Dousman was previously known as “Bullfrog Station” because of the large amounts of bullfrogs that used to live in the area. Today, this history is recognized through the annual frog jumping competition held in the village and through the local baseball team, the Dousman Frogs.
There are endless opportunities for outdoor activity in and around Dousman. The Glacial Drumlin State Trail, a 47-mile trail on the former Chicago and North Western roadbed, runs through the village. This trail can be used year-round for hiking, running, biking, and snowmobiling. Lakes and glacial trails spanning 21,000 acres are ready to be explored at the Kettle Moraine State Forest, just four miles south of Dousman. The Bark River flows through the village and is perfect for fishing and canoeing. There are many community-oriented activities, such a weekly farmer’s market, the Annual Rummage Sale, and the famous Derby Days festival.
