About Saukville
A charming village established along the Milwaukee River, Saukville is located in the center of Ozaukee County, just west of Port Washington and north of Grafton. A population of approximately 4,500 people reside in this community positioned 23 miles north of downtown Milwaukee and three miles west of Lake Michigan. Established in 1848, settlers included Norwegians and Germans, whose presence is still felt today in the architecture and the names of the streets.
The Green Bay Ethnic Trail, an official heritage route and a segment of Wisconsin’s Ethnic Settlement Trail, runs through Saukville. This network of trails, extending from Hudson Bay to Florida, and the Wisconsin Central Railroad, were vital to Saukville because they provided the basis for the commercial and manufacturing industry in the village today.
There are a variety of attractions to explore in and around Saukville, including an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course and the Riveredge Nature Center. Harrington Beach State Park has a mile-long beach to relax at and a 26-acre lake, perfect for swimming, fishing, and boating. The Ozaukee Interurban Trail, a 40-mile long path, is great for both biking and jogging. Only three miles away, beaches can be found along the shoreline of Lake Michigan and many parks, including Peninsula Park and Tendrick Nature Park, are located in Saukville. Interstate 43 and Wisconsin Highway 60 are within close proximity to the village, allowing easy access to nearby communities and attractions.
