About Muskego
Known for the three beautiful lakes in the city, Muskego boasts countless outdoor recreational opportunities. The community is the fifth largest in Waukesha County, with a population of about 24,600 residents. Muskego is bordered by New Berlin to the north, Big Bend to the west, and Franklin to the east. Downtown Milwaukee is only a 25-minute drive away, while the drive to Lake Michigan is 35 minutes. In the past few years, Muskego has been considered one of the safest and most affordable cities in Wisconsin and one of the best to raise a family.
The name of Muskego is derived from the Potawatomi Indian word for sunfish, “Mus-kee-guaac.” The first Europeans arrived in the late 1820s and early 1830s and focused on agriculture because of the trading opportunities with Milwaukee. A plank road from Muskego to Milwaukee, followed by a trolley line, allowed for the farming industry to thrive. Today, there are many different industries and businesses in the area, such as manufacturing and retail. InPro Corporation is headquartered in Muskego.
