About Cedarburg
Known for its rich history and small-town charm, Cedarburg is a picturesque city located in Ozaukee County. This community, found just 20 miles north of Milwaukee, has a gorgeous downtown area full of local restaurants and unique boutiques. Cedarburg, home to just over 11,500 residents, is bordered by Grafton to its east and the Town of Cedarburg to its west, south, and north. Proximity to Interstate 43 and State Highway 60 allow for easy access to the surrounding areas.
The first settler in area bought land on the banks of Cedar Creek from the government in 1842. William Ludwig Groth built his cabin here and named it “Cedarburg,” meaning “castle of cedars.” Two years later, the city was officially named Cedarburg. Originally, the Cedarburg Grist Mill, the Cedarburg Woolen Mill, and the Cedarburg Electric Light Commission made up the economy of the community. Many of these original buildings are still standing and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the most common industries for Cedarburg residents include manufacturing and management.
