About Cedarburg
Known for its rich history and small-town charm, Cedarburg is a picturesque city located in Ozaukee County. Cedarburg, home to just over 11,500 residents, is bordered by Grafton to its east and the Town of Cedarburg to its west, south, and north. The first settler in area bought land on the banks of Cedar Creek from the government in 1842. William Ludwig Groth built his cabin here and named it “Cedarburg,” meaning “castle of cedars.” Two years later, the city was officially named Cedarburg. Originally, the Cedarburg Grist Mill, the Cedarburg Woolen Mill, and the Cedarburg Electric Light Commission made up the economy of the community. Many of these original buildings are still standing and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the most common industries for Cedarburg residents include manufacturing and management.
Outdoor recreation opportunities and community events are abundant in Cedarburg. Over 140 acres of parkland are spread out over the 34 parks and have amenities such as hiking trails, playgrounds, and athletic fields.
The Ozaukee Interurban Trail crosses through the city and is great for bike rides and long walks. Cedar Creek runs through the city, providing canoeing, kayaking, and fishing opportunities. Cedarburg is known for its unique community events, especially the festivals that take place year round.
