Moving to Milwaukee? Milwaukee’s Top 5 Suburbs

So where should you put your money if you are moving to Milwaukee and want to buy a house? We have the Top five hottest places to relocate!

These 5 communities have sidewalks, streetlamps, running trails, shops, restaurants, and a thriving sense of community that buyers want. In a world that is so plugged in, here you get to plug out and take a walk with your family, see your neighbors, and run into people throughout your community just by walking outside your front door. These communities have a sense a family we are all looking for in our lives and they provide a cloak of security when raising our children. The Friday night football game is an all-town event, and Shorewood High School’s Theatre night has participation from everyone in the community. It is special here and as Milwaukee’s Top Real Estate Team we have your list of the Hottest Communities:

A. Whitefish Bay

Whitefish Bay is a bustling, tight-knit village of tree-lined streets and beautiful parks. It is a community of lifelong residents, filled with landmark businesses and local staples that lend themselves to the sense of pride that comes with living in Whitefish Bay. The village is home to some of the best schools Wisconsin has to offer, including the state’s number one high school. Whitefish Bay is a Bird City Wisconsin and a Tree City USA. Whitefish Bay is one of the most popular suburbs with home values consistently out stripping last year’s record year over year. Want to preserve your home’s equity then this suburb is a sure thing with top rated schools, streetlamps, village restaurants, shops, bars, grocery stores, farmer’s market, and community organized events. The Whitefish Bay Civic Center is very active in raising sponsorship for their very popular 4th of July Parade, Pumpkin Carving Contests, Ice Cream Socials, and Thursday night concerts across from the local library. Enjoy two great kids’ parks at Cahill and Klode. This community is nestled along the banks of Lake Michigan and offers beautiful Klode Park with its amazing Lake Michigan Views and white sandy beaches.

    B. Shorewood

Open-mined and community driven best describe Shorewood. A diverse community where the Shorewood’s Business Improvement District is one of the most progressive in the Milwaukee area. Shorewood has done remarkable improvements over the last few years to their village and brought boutique stores, coffee shops, restaurants, apartment complexes, and turned beautified Oakland Avenue into a robust shopping and eating experience. The schools are top rated, and the homes are historical from the bungalows to the mansions. A favorite feature of this Village is Atwater Park with spectacular Lake Michigan views. Friends of Atwater Park improved this park into a vibrant meeting place where people gather to do their morning yoga on the beaches of Lake Michigan. Come enjoy the morning surfers, walk and run the Atwater stairs, or take it all in with benches dotted along the beach – spectacular views make this one of Milwaukee’s best beaches.

      C. Fox Point

Fox Point is a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood nestled on the shores of Lake Michigan. It’s a beautiful village of stunning vistas, small parks, and hidden gems among well-manicured lawns. As a mainly residential area, Fox Point is the perfect place to explore with a family.

Outdoor recreation is the focus in Fox Point. Parks, wooded areas, ravines, beaches abound, and kid-friendly playgrounds can be found within walking distance of nearly every house. For a day at the beach, head down to Doctor’s Park, where you’ll find picnic areas, walking trails, and even an outdoor exercise area! During the summer months, bring the kids to the Fox Point Farmers’ Market to peruse local produce, honey, meats, and even fresh-baked goods. For dinner, head to Calderone Club for some of Milwaukee’s most authentic Italian food.

In Fox Point, there's a community group for every interest. Some of these include:

        Fox Point Foundation

        Fox Point Garden Club

        North Shore Library

        North Shore Junior Women’s Club

        The North Shore Newcomers Association

        D. Mequon

Mequon is a vibrant community that captures a unique mix of rural Wisconsin and Metropolitan Milwaukee. With beautiful homes and plenty of nearby recreational activities, families love Mequon. The community's abundant businesses and employers, excellent school system, boutique stores, and restaurants are some of the top reasons why people decide to relocate to this charming rural community near Milwaukee. Mequon is now home to the fantastic Spur 16 with Mequon’s Public Market, luxury apartment complex - featuring townhomes and traditional apartments with fantastic concierge services and unprecedented walkability!

The abundance of natural space in Mequon provides plenty of room for outdoor recreation. Animal lovers rejoice - provided with enough space, you can own horses, chickens, cows, and many other types of domestic animals. For the golf enthusiast, there are five golf courses in Mequon of varying difficulty, multiple of which are kid friendly. Over two dozen parks are available, many equipped with playgrounds, walking trails, and even canoe launches.

          More interesting opportunities include:

          Thiensville Mequon Youth Baseball Association

          Mequon Soccer Club

          The Ozaukee Ice Center

          The Ozaukee Interurban Trail

          The Mequon-Thiensville Historical Society

          E. Wauwatosa

Known simply as “Tosa” to residents, the thriving business district at the heart of Wauwatosa is home to over 100 stores, restaurants, and businesses organized in the style of a European village. Wauwatosa is fast becoming the place to live in the Milwaukee Metro Area. The redevelopment of the Village of Tosa with its trendy restaurants, fabulous bike path, and cool stores is undeniably one of the most developed villages within a 10-minute drive to downtown and that makes the real estate values sizzle here.

If you're looking for real estate close to downtown, Wauwatosa is a fabulous community to call home. Some of our favorite neighborhoods in "Tosa" are rich in history and go back to an era of industrial prosperity for Milwaukee. Many of these favorite neighborhoods have a charm of a bygone era and feature great architecture from the 1920's. Popular house hunting neighborhoods include Washington Highlands, Wellauer Park, and Pasadena Neighborhoods. Wauwatosa is one of the still affordable areas close to the city at just right around $265/ a square foot. Expect to pay substantially more closer to Honey Creek Parkway.
